Shane Hewitt

Shane Hewitt began his career in the entertainment industry as lead singer of the Australian rock group, Lotus, and later worked as a solo pop performer. His early recordings include the hit single “Lotus One”, the album “Alice’s Wonderband” (with Sybil Graham) and the children’s album “Look There! Humphrey Bear”.

In 1973 he jumped to the other side of the footlights to work with theatre-legend, Kenn Brodziak. This led to senior positions with some of Australia’s leading arts and entertainment organisations, including General Manager, J.C. Williamson Productions; General Manager, Darwin Performing Arts Centre; Operations Manager, Melbourne Park; and Deputy General Manager, Victorian Arts Centre.

Along the way he has also served on numerous boards including the Melbourne International Festival, and he is currently a Director of the National Theatre, St Kilda.  Shane resumed singing in 1997 and has since released three CDs - "Hopeless Romantic" (ten jazz vocal standards and two of his own songs), "Unforgettable! A Tribute To Nat King Cole" (21 tracks of famous Cole hits) and "The Fats Waller Project" (18 popular songs from the twenties and thirties).

Shane performs regular concerts and cabaret shows, does consultancy work in the industry and continues to develop his record label and CD retail business called Middle Eight Music (www.middle8.com).
