Russ Miller


Russ Miller was born in Canton, Ohio and began playing drums at the age of nine. Russ started his professional career at the age of fifteen. After studying privately for almost 10 years, he moved to Miami to attend the University of Miami School of Music. In addition to attending college, Russ also further mastered his skills studying with Jim Chapin and Latin legend "Changuito". With all this training, Russ built a strong educational foundation.

Russ has since continued with a successful professional career. One of Russ' best playing attributes is his flexibility in different music styles. This facility has led to working with an extremely well-rounded pallet of artists that range from Slash through The Fifth Dimension. Russ has worked with a vast number of artists through his career, here are some of the highlights: Dave Koz, The Hellacasters, L.A. All-Stars (w/ Alex Acuna, John Pena, Jay Oliver and George Shelby), Debbie Gibson, Phil Sheeran, The Bee Gees, Raul DiBlasio, RuPaul, Jon Secada, Nestor Torres, Rick Krive, Ira Sullivan, Ed Calle, The Monkees, Lori Andrews, The N.Y. All-Star Band (w/ Julio Fernandez, Geraldo Valez and Scott Ambush from Spyro Gyra, Slash, and Delmar Brown from Sting's band.), Dr.Lonnie Smith and Victor Bailey.

Russ is also featured on over 50 albums featuring some of the aforementioned artists as well as many radio and television commercials including Nissan, Target department stores, Fox News themes, Sports Shop Television, Denny's, Home Depot along with movies such as Daylight, Dr. Dolittle, How Stella Got Her Groove Back and Mortal Combat.

Being recognized as a top artist on his instrument led to Russ endorsing products and conducting educational clinics for Yamaha drums, Zildjian cymbals and sticks, Remo drum heads, Shure Microphones, Hart Dynamics drum shoes and May microphones. With an extensive knowledge for electronic instruments, Russ worked on the design team of the Yamaha DTX electronic drum system along with starring in it's instructional video. Recently, Russ was recorded as the featured artist on both the Yamaha Drums and May Microphones audio sample CD's. Russ is also considered a top educator and is a visiting artist at the Musicians Institute (PIT) in Los Angeles. He has been interviewed in magazines such as: Modern Drummer, Drum!, Rhythm(England), Rhythm and Drums(Japan),Drum Club(Italy), Percussive Notes and Music and Computers.

With the release of his solo album "Where's One?" and his drum instructional books "The Drum Set Crash Course" and "The Commandments of R&B Drumming" ( w/Zoro) on Warner Brothers Publications, Russ has become a strong force in the international music scene.
