Well known for his participation as the drummer on the landmark Miles Davis "Bitches Brew" album, and his collaboration with Chick Corea, Stanley Clark and Al DiMeola as part of Return To Forever, Lenny White has exemplified the ultimate in diversity as a drummer, composer, arranger and producer. He is known as one of the pioneers of "jazz rock drumming".
Lenny has also made his mark in the "straight ahead jazz" genre from his work with Freddie Hubbard and the recording of Hubbard's Red Clay, the Grammy nominated "Echoes Of An Era" sessions, his work with Joe Henderson (Pursuit of Blackness, If You're Not Part of the Solution....), and his production and playing on the Essence All Stars Series (Essence of Funk, Primal Blue, Afro Cubano Chant & Hub Art).
In 1995, Lenny released the highly successful album Present Tense. This recording featured an all-star line up including Chick Corea, John Scofield, Marcus Miller, Bernard Wright, Kenny Garrett, and more, with the highlighted "Who Do You Love?" featuring Chaka Kahn. This recording, along with his production of the critically acclaimed Blue Note recording by Rachelle Farrell, First Instrument, accents the versatility of an artist who for three decades has been on the cutting edge of jazz, fusion, and R&B music.
Since this release, Lenny White has been very busy in the studio. Besides producing the first four titles from The Essence All-Stars Series and his second solo album for Hip Bop, he has also just completed producing the next Warner Brothers release for trumpeter, Wallace Roney.
