Carl Anderson is a renaissance man, moving deftly between musical idioms;
television, theater, film, nightclubs, concert halls, Europe, Far East, West
Coast, East Coast, politics, poetry and pictures.
"My varied interests drive me to create in these sometimes unrelated
disciplines and some times the juxtopositions work in my favor. Such was the
case with Jesus Christ Superstar"
After being "discovered" in a Washington , DC church by a New
York agent, he went on to perform the role of Judas in the pre-Broadway tour,
Broadway, Los Angeles and film versions of the acclaimed Andrew Lloyd-Webber
musical Jesus Christ Superstar, winning accolades, awards and standing
ovations world wide. Carl's Judas portrayal garnered awards including Golden
Globe nominations in two categories to Photoplay Magazine's Gold Medal and
NAACP's Award for Theater. In 1992, he reprised the role he made famous and a
Twentieth-Anniversary-of The-Movie Tour, planned for three months, found
unexpected favor and fans, lasting 28 months and grossing over 100 million
dollars while visiting over fifty North American cities, including the
Paramount Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York, The Universal
Amphitheater in Los Angeles, The Fox theaters in Detroit, St. Louis and
Atlanta, The Orpheum in San Francisco the Wang Center in Boston as well as
stints in Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Miami, Toronto, Vancouver and
Montreal.
A natural musician, Carl tours and creates magic in venues as diverse as
Vina del Mar in Chile, with it's audience of 40,000, to intimate nightspots in
Japan like the Blue Note - Tokyo where 100 guests per show cram together
sardine-like to witness Carl's brand of joyous celebration, musicianship,
craft, and love for life.
His recording career spans stints as a soloist, recording hits like
"How Deep Does It Go" "Pieces Of A Heart" and "Hot
Coffee" at the GRP Label and the mega- hit "Friends and Lovers"
which he produced and sang in duet with guest, Gloria Loring.
Anderson's guest stints on fellow artists project are also legendary,
including "Can It Be Done?" ( the only vocal contribution ever made
on a Weather Report project). Jazz singer Nancy Wilson has used Carl's silky
romantic voice on her "Forbidden Lover" CD and live in concert as
her favorite duet partner (witness the concert video Live at Carnegie Hall ).
In addition, Carl has shared musical expressions with Mark Isham, Keiko
Matsui, Maynard Ferguson, Michael Paulo, Herbie Hancock, Eric Mariernthal,
Edgar Winter, Kenny Loggins, Brenda Russell, Stevie Wonder, David Benoit, Russ
Freeman and the Rippingtons Wayne Shorter and Josef Zawinul.
Recently Carl Anderson was seen on the Broadway Stage portraying The Duke
in an adaptation of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" called "PLAY
ON!" featuring the music of Duke Ellington. He appears on the
Pre-Broadway Soundtrack of "Civil War-An American Musical" a new
Frank Wildhorn offering just released on Atlantic Records alongside Patti
LaBelle, Linda Eder, Maya Angelou, Bebe Winans, Dr. John, Hootie And The
Blowfish Travis Tritt, Betty Buckley, James Garner, Danny Glover, Tricia
Yearwood and other recording stars from a diversity of musical genres.
He is currently fronting a new band of top-flight LA musicians and is in
pre-production for his forthcoming in-studio CD, a follow-up to the limited
edition "Why We Are Here..."-CARL ANDERSON --LIVE at AGAPE!
