Hans van Even

 

Hans Van Even was born in Turnhout (Belgium) on 4 June 1969. At age 11 he began playing the guitar after listening to performances by Alvin Lee (Ten Years After), Pete Townshend (The Who), Santana and Jimi Hendrix on the "Woodstock" album and to Neil Young records stolen from his sister.

He studied classical music from the age of 14 for about 7 years (guitar with Raphaella Smiths, piano with Freddy Vanderkoelen, harmony, choir, ear training, ...) at RIKSO Belgium. Later he studied jazz music at "Jazz Studio" Antwerp (Belgium) for 3 years.

At this period, his group Coco Spirit played opening gigs for artists like Joe Cocker, Christopher Cross and John Miles. He also recorded an album with Belgian singer Charles Garvis. In January 1993 he moved to France to join the fusion-jazz group Stolen. With Stolen he appeared as special guest at Mike Stern and André Ceccarelli concerts among others.

Since 1993, Hans has taught guitar and improvisation at CIAM ( college of contemporary music in Bordeaux, France). He appeared in the Guitarist magizine (France) in September 1998.

In this period, Hans joined the Philippe Duvignac group, an interesting project that's currentlly produced by Thierry Gerardo and well-known French drummer Claude Salmeiri.

Moreover he worked with GARLO on his experimental project called "KAZE" (CD to be released this year) with some concerts in Japan in March 1999.

He's also a member of the Fabian Barnes Pop Jazz Band and did a record with this group in 1999. Hans is currently working on the debut CD of his group.

Philippe Ravez -Drums-

Oldest member of the HVE Group and long time friend of Hans, Philippe was born in Talence on 2 October 1970 and began playing the piano at the age of 7. He studied Percussion at the Concervatory of Bordeaux and at Agostini School of Drums (best drummer of his session). He also studied French Horn and Bass guitar. Philippe teaches Drums at several schools in Bordeaux.

Martin Hassler -Keyboards- Martin was born in May 1962 in Erlangen, Germany. He started classical piano at age 6, but gave up the fight with Chopin after ten years, subsequently turning to the acustic guitar and folkrock music. In the late 70s while he was still at high school, his folktrio SPARROW toured small clubs in Bavaria. After he moved to France in 1983 to study English and French at Lille Unicersity College, as well as classical singing at the local Conservatoire, he also decided to take up the piano again, playing numerous solo and duo concerts of his own chanson-style music with English clarinettist Brian Steer. His meeting with French bassist Michel Rouxel, whose quartet he joined in 1986, spawned a new interest in Jazz and Fusion music, meanwhile working fulltime as a highschool English teacher. In 1991 Martin started recording a CD entitled Balance with German singer-songwriter-friend Michael Haensch. In 1995 he moved to Bordeaux, France where he studied jazz piano at CIAM college of contemporary music, one of his teachers being a guy called Hans van Even, who in October 1998 offered him to join the Hans Van Even Group on piano and keyboards.

Michel Fourcade -Drums/Percussions/V Drums-

Born on 11 November 1965 à Tarbes. He started playing the drums at age 15. He studied at the concervatory of Bordeaux and at the Drum school of J.M. Lajudie (Limoge) were he obtained a first price. He currently teaching at CIAM and INFOGROOVE (his proper drum school) Michel has played with lot's of different groups covering a wide variety of styles. He is a very demanded session drummer and appeared on the French television pragram "TARATATA" with the group "Bon Temps Rouler". He works on a lot of different projects for some important French singers. In 1999 he also participated on the KAZE project of Garlo in Japan with Hans.
