KOKOPELLI performed for 6 years at Croces Jazz
Bar in the Gaslamp in San Diego. They also have performed at the Big Sur
Jazz Festival, The Idyllwild Jazz festival and The Calle Diez Latin
Festival and at 4th & B. They have opened up for Pancho Sanchez,
Arturo Sandoval and The Spirits of Havana.
Pianist and Musical Director TURIYA MAREYA
has been performing and touring for 25 years and has lived and worked in
San Francisco, New York, Mexico City. Based now in San Diego she has
worked with Daniel Jackson, The Tambu International Latin Ensemble, Pablo
Mendez and Gilbert Castellanos. She has been a featured artist over 20
times on KSDS Jazz Live and has composed numerous scores for theatre and
film.
DAVID MILLARD performs on alto sax, Alto flute, c flute, Piccolo, Guitar
and Cello. This original and innovative musician is known for his unique
and passionate style. San Diego born he studied guitar in Spain and also
worked in New York, Texas and Mexico. In San Diego he has worked with
Tambu, Daniel Jackson and Jaime Moran among other.
SKIP HOWLETT plays drums and timbales. This internationally known artist
was based for 20 years in New York. He has worked with Mongo Santamaria,
Dave Valentin, Jorge Dalto and Xavier Cugat, Poncho Sanchez and Tito
Puente. He was an original member of Jerry Gonzalez's Fort apache Band.
Relocated now to San Diego he is in demand for his technical skills and
prowess as a soloist. He is one of San Diegos most respected and hardest
working Latin Jazz Artists.
Bassist IGNACIO ARANGO was born in Havana Cuba where he studied guitar at
one of Havanas most prestigious Music Conservatories. He played with the
Tropicana cabaret orchestra for 10 years in Havana and toured Europe and
Mexico. Most recently in Cuba he was recording with the Havana radio and
Television Orchestra. Since his recent arrival in San Diego he has also
worked with Unidos, Tiny Universe and Giant People.
Saxophonist STEVE FEIERABEND is one of San Diegos most respected artists
who has just released his debut CD Revolving Doors. He received a master
in Music from Brown University and presently teaches at San Diego State.
He is one of San Diegos hardest working sideman and is know for his master
of his instrument and passionate soloing.
IRVING SOTO performs on congas. He is originally from New York and has
performed with Charlie Palmieri, Dizzy Gillespie, Chick corea and Ishmael
Quintana.

Turiya Mareya was
born in Plainview Texas. She began studying piano at 5 years of age
learning show tunes and standards. In her teens she began playing Jazz and
studied with San Diego's most respected Jazz Artist Mr. Daniel Jackson.
Under his tutalege she learned: arranging, composition, performance,
theory and Jazz History. She also began studying Bass Clarinet. She moved
to New York to study at the Creative Music studio where the staff
included, Julius Hemphill, Oliver Lake, Joseph Jarman, Don Cherry and
Anthony Braxton.
1978 - Lived and Performed in Vera Cruz and Mexico City with Tambu Bata
International Jazz Ensemble
1982- Formed Future Primitive with Dave Millard and Mark Dresser.
1985- Headed "Libertad Imidiata" Latin Orchestra performing in
Mexico and Southern California
1980- 1990 performed with MASA - Mexican Dance Band
1988-1990- Publicist at Centro Cultural De La Raza in Balboa Park San
Diego. Also did booking and artist support for the Centro Cultural Chicano
Music Festival.
1990 - 1992 - Artist in Residence at El Nopal Centenario in Tijuana
Mexico. Also facilitated Cross Cultural Exchange program.
1992-1998 Musical Director for the Ruse Collective and San Diego Based New
Music and Art Performance Space.
1994- ongoing - Musical Director of KOKOPELLI performing at Croce's Jazz
Bar, Big Sur Jazz Festival, Idylwild Jazz Festival, Calle Diez Jazz
Festival. Opening for Arturo Sandoval, Poncho Sanchez and Spirits of
Havana.
1996 -ongoing - Latin Music Director at The WorldBeat Cultural Center in
Balboa Park San Diego.
2001-ongoing- Musical Director of LA FUENTE featuring Amparito Escovar.
Performing at Mambo's, Calle Diez Latin Festival and Harlem West Festival.
