Born
in Syracuse, New York, into a family of jazz musicians,
New York City resident Don Martins professional bass career began with
tours up and down the east coast backing up a New York funk band.
Don has become a staple in the downtown music scene. He has performed with numerous Black Rock Coalition artists, including Vernon Reid. Don found his way into session and jingle work and his rich bass sounds can be heard as the foundation for many a track in studios all over Manhattan. You can catch Don on most Sundays thumping strings in Brooklyn, New York with Courtney Bradley and True Worship, a gospel band and choir that has appeared at such legendary venues as Harlems Apollo Theater. In addition to his involvement as co-writer/arranger with band member Brian Jackson, Don has performed with hip-hop pioneers, Jungle Bros., and even more recently with Soul-Jazz legend Roy Ayers, as well as with songstress Angela Bofill.
