For
Beegie Adair, growing up in Cave City, Kentucky and working in
Nashville, Tennessee, most of her professional life did little to
deter her experience and career. An avid music fan from an early
age, she studied piano from the age of five through college.
Arriving
in Nashville, during the hey day of country music, allowed her the
opportunity to accompany such legendary performers as Johnny Cash,
Dolly Parton, and Chet Atkins. Because during that time, Nashville
was a hot bed of musical television tapings
and live performances, geography also afforded Adair the chance to
work with such entertainers as Lucille Ball, Carol Burnette and
Dinah Shore.
Adair spent most
of her weekends playing live jazz and honing her talents. After
three decades of dedication and persistence, Nashville finally
recognized her for her passion by awarding her the 1998 Nashville
Music Award ("the Nammy") for Jazz Album of the Year. It
was a satisfying achievement for Adair even though it came as she
was turning 60 years old.
Adair's drummer
Chris Browns graduated from the renowned music program at North
Texas State University, toured with Maynard Ferguson for three years
and recently toured with Lorrie Morgan. Bassist Roger Spencer has
played with the Les Brown Band, Ray Conniff, the Page Cavanaugh Trio
and Pete Jolly, and is the co-director of the Nashville Jazz
Institute. "They're my main guys, " Adair says of the
rhythm section. "They are so tuned into the way I visualize the
music, that it's effortless to play with them."
