Chris
Kent was born into a music lovers family. From my mother's gospel
records to my dad's smooth jazz. My oldest brother's R & B to my
other brother's vocal jazz. Then my sister had her Top 40. I listened to
it all!!!
Anyway, I was born in
April of 1967 in Portland Oregon. I lived there all of my life until
1993 when my wife and I moved to Nashville, Tennessee. Just our Toyota,
a U-Haul trailer and our cat Sally.
I started playing piano when I was in second grade. I hated piano! I
never wanted to practice, and the silly songs that I had to play were
never as hip as the songs on the radio. I stayed with piano for a few
years. A friend down the street played drums. She would teach me
different drum beats. My parents said no to a drum kit right quick! My
next door neighbor had a guitar, the guy across the street had a guitar
and another girl down the block played piano. So, I thought to myself,
"If I played bass, we could start a band!" I was on a mission!
My next door neighbor tried his best to talk me out of it! "Chris,
the bass player ALWAYS stands in the back. The bass player never gets
the chicks, and NEVER EVER takes solos!!!" But I wanted to have a
band so bad! When I was in fifth grade I asked Santa for a bass guitar.
So Mom and Dad showed up with a slick, black electric bass from
Montgomery Ward! AW YEAH BABY!!!! The funk was alive and well at the
Kent house!!!
From the age of ten I played bass day and night. Soon, I was playing in
the school bands, garage bands, top 40 bands, jazz bands, and even a
metal band! YES! I can play some Maiden with the best of 'em!!! It was
my senior year in High School when I realized that life was too hard
without help from the Lord Jesus Christ. In 1985 I gave my life to Him!
I've had a pretty amazing life so far. It still blows my mind! The
things that God has allowed me to do. And the things that He's brought
me through! WOW! I truly love Him!!!
I've been married to the same wonderful girl since 1988! We've adopted
two absolutely great kids! I've survived cancer, AND I get to do
something that I love for a living! The Lord really loves me! And ya
know what? He loves you too!
God Bless, Chris.
