Renowned Canadian and international singer Holly Cole released her highly anticipated 13th studio album, ‘Dark Moon’, on January 24, 2025. Available via Rumpus Room/Universal Music Canada, the album finds Cole collaborating with her regular live performance partners and other notable musicians to create an ensemble-driven masterpiece that showcases her signature style and versatility.

"I really wanted this album to embrace the spirit of spontaneity. At the same time, an essential part of the sound of my music is in the arrangements. We did very little rehearsal ahead of time, so the songs were incredibly fresh for us in the studio. What we ultimately hear on this record is the moment we discover what we love about the song and the essence of it," says Cole.

Cole is a hard act to pigeonhole. She blends elements of jazz, pop, and country. Now, she's tackling classics from the New American Songbook. Her ensemble includes: Aaron Davis (piano), George Koller (bass), Davide Direnzo (drums), and John Johnson (sax). In addition, there are contributions from guitar virtuoso Kevin Breit, harmonica legend Howard Levy, and the vocals of Good Lovelies.

The lead single, ‘No Moon at All’, is a sultry up-tempo version of the Peggy Lee classic, with a harmonica solo by Howard Levy, who has already won two Grammys and was originally with Béla Fleck and the Flecktones. ‘Moon River’ is known to you from Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer. And ‘Message to Michael’ was composed by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, and sung by Dionne Warwick. ‘Kiss Me Quick’ is an Elvis classic, and ‘Wak Away Renee’ goes back to The Four Tops.

A varied CD, quite nice!
