I don't think that the American contemporary jazz guitarist, singer and composer Joyce Cooling has already been mentioned here on my site, but that has been made up for here. In 1997 she released her debut CD 'Playing it Cool' together with keyboard player & producer Jay Wagner and was noticed by the world. Over the years, she has already recorded 9 albums, 6 of which made it to the Billboard charts. In addition, 3 of her singles rose to the top. Joyce is a self-made guitarist and learned to play by ear. Now her first original Christmas CD has been released digitally, reminding us of all the things that make that season so special. Joyce composed all songs with Jay Wagner, who arranged them and produced the disc. Drummers Billy Johnson and Danny Montgomery, and percussionist/drummer Peter Michael Escovedo complete the picture. 'It's a Brand New Year with You' opens in a jazzy atmosphere, followed by the first single 'It's Feeling Like Christmas'. Joyce said: “The holiday season is so cool when it's the real deal. Jay and I wanted to write a song that reflected that – something warm, something sweet. It¹s Feeling Like Christmas came tumbling out spontaneously with no agenda except, “Happy Holidays.” The song is a simple, heartfelt message of good will and cheer to all – hopefully a song that people will want to hear year after year.” It does indeed sound like a warm atmosphere creation, and half of the proceeds from it go to N.A.M.I. (National Alliance on Mental Illness). During the war in 1914 there was a truce at Christmas, and the song 'Christmas Truce of 1914' is about that. You hear influences of a military march. The title track is the second single right away, reminding us of all the things to enjoy this season. It is written in the style of the forties, so "let's swing". 'Winter Waltz' is an instrumental track, followed by the danceable, contemporary 'Christmas, Christmas'. ‘Snow Is Falling’ closes. A nice Christmas CD, which already makes me long for the season that evokes the warmest feeling in us. And Joyce is already evoking that atmosphere!
