In 2019, American jazz singer Elaine Dame from Chicago had the idea to record an album with pop songs from the seventies, but in a hip, modern jazz way. She started it in 2020, but the pandemic threw a spanner in the works, and both her parents passed away. Depression struck, and she even considered quitting singing. Last year she got back on her feet, and this is the result.

Elaine grew up in Michigan, where her mother was a flute player and singer. She studied classical flute, voice and theater at Pepperdine University in Southern California, and graduated from California State University, Northridge. After 9 years in LA, she returned to Chicago. There she was regularly seen in jazz clubs and at the Chicago Jazz Festival. She previously released two albums with the Great American Songbook in 2005 and 2014. On this new CD she is supported by Chris Madsen (tenor/soprano sax), Tom Vaitsas (piano, organ, Rhodes), Sam Peters (bass), Jon Deitemeyer (drums), Victor Garcia (trumpet), Art Davis (trumpet), Neal Alger (guitar), Alyssa Allgood, Christy Bennett (backing vocals).

The 9 tracks are all jazz versions of covers from the seventies, and they are 'Tell Me Something Good' (Rufus & Chaka Khan), 'Use Me' (Bill Withers), the title track (The Little River Band), 'Wish You Were Here' (Pink Floyd), 'Sing Child' (Heart), 'Nothing Seems to Matter' (Bonnie Raitt), 'Midnight at the Oasis' (Maria Muldaur), 'Last Dance' (Donna Summer) and 'Love Will Find a Way' (Pablo Cruise).

Elaine covers a range of music styles, such as funk, soft rock, rock and disco and sometimes pours it into a light bossa nova, and sometimes into bluesy funk. Elaine thus stands for nostalgia, and proves that she can handle all kinds of styles.
