![]() With a rigorous classical education in saxophone and piano from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Jeanette Harris demonstrates a level of artistry that clearly sets her apart in the smooth jazz genre. Her experience as a saxophonist for the legendary Teena Marie during her last year of touring is a testament to her resilience and unwavering dedication to her craft. But Jeanette has also collaborated with guitarist Norman Brown and fellow saxophonist Gerald Albright. Her latest album, ‘Her Majesty’, has become a fan favorite, exemplifying her masterful blend of popular covers and soulful originals. The album contains 11 tracks, opening with the upbeat ‘Golden Nights’, featuring Romel Veal on guitar. The Curtis Mayfield cover ‘Give Me Your Love’ follows next, a real “blaxploitation” number. The beautiful ‘Let it Flow’ is known to us from the late grandmaster Grover Washington, Jr., who is still a shining example for many. ‘Diamond Island’ takes us to an exotic paradise, again in the company of Romel Veal. And he can also be heard on the title track, after which the tempo increases a bit on ‘Pearls & Things’. ‘Crown Down’ sounds a bit more funky, while ‘Brown Sunshine’ floats nicely on the funky bass of Dave Dyson. After that, ‘Royal Blue’ with Clarence “T-Lee” Hill on keyboards is very relaxed, and on ‘New Horizons’ Jeanette plays solo. Skip Scarborough’s ‘Love Ballad’ (once covered by George Benson) closes this beautiful album in mid-tempo. A real recommendation, this album, which once again highlights the talent of Jeanette Harris. ![]() |
