Singer, trumpeter and composer Jennifer Hartswick, from Sheffield, Vermont, now lives in Nashville and releases her fourth album here.

She is an original member of the Trey Anastasio Band, and has already performed on stages with Herbie Hancock, Phish, Christian McBride, Tom Petty, Aaron Neville, Carlos Santana, The Rolling Stones, Big Gigantic, Dave Matthews etc.

However, this is her first CD for Christian McBride's Brother Mister Productions, a label of Mack Avenue Records. For this she collaborated with a group of musicians consisting of Nicholas Cassarino (guitar & vocals), Christian McBride (bass), Conor Elmes (drums), Rob Marscher (keyboards), Celisse Henderson (vocals), Daniel Sadownick (percussion), Natalie Cressman (trombone), Shira Elias (vocals), Maureen Murphy (vocals), Roy Acee (trombone), and Chris Chew (vocals).

The album starts with 'Only Time Will Tell', a contemporary jazz track, with a funky input, on which she also scats. ‘Fairytale’ is a pop ballad, after which ‘Two Way Mirror’ brings out the funk again. Then I come to 'By The River' which takes us to New Orleans along the Mississippi River.

And ‘Guilty’ is a Randy Newman cover, here as a duet with Christian McBride's bass. Surprising is the R&B track 'For You', in which she sings as a woman that she leaves her immature lover behind. On 'Innocence' she returns to jazz, followed by the beautiful ballad 'Enamored'. Closer 'When I'm Weary' is another cover, this time by Dave Matthews, which she sings like a hymn.

Jennifer knows how to jump back and forth between different music genres, and does so in a fun way. In this way she knows how to bring out her versatile talent.
