Roland Voss, who hides behind the pseudonym Lemongrass, passes by here regularly. Now he has made an album called 'Mosaic'. We all know that a mosaic is a multifaceted pattern composed by putting together small pieces of different types. This album follows the same principle, where fragments of sounds and creative ideas from different sources take shape. This is also Roland's 34th album. In doing so, a wide variety of instrumentation and styles are laid out before us, influenced by sources of inspiration such as memories of visiting breathtaking places, favorite books and movies, or simply being still in a meditative moment. Acoustic instruments were given the leading role, with jazzy vibes on 'Turn Down the Lights', a cool and easy Jazz Hop jacket on 'Street Life', or a fabulous tabla rhythm on 'Le voyage' and 'Bombay Jazz'. Each individual facet has a story to tell, independently carrying a small part of the image, to form as something new. The result is an elegant suite of compositions, imbued with a traceable scent of a creatively matured, summery, life-affirming nature, evident in all Lemongrass music. |
