African-American composer and multi-instrumentalist Jeff Logan hails from the DMV region, i.e. Washington, DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia. He plays bass, guitar, percussion and keyboards. He has already released several albums and composes in various genres such as contemporary gospel, R&B, smooth jazz and soundtrack. Now his latest album has been released, and it contains 10 original smooth jazz compositions. However, Jeff has incorporated elements from gospel, R&B and other musical influences. Previously, Jeff had performed and produced everything himself, but now he was looking for a producer. He found that in the person of Paul Brown, the Quincy Jones of smooth jazz productions. Paul provided production for all songs, and also played electric & nylon guitar and percussion. In addition, Shane Theriot (bass, drums, guitar and keyboards), Roberto Vally (bass), Gorden Campbell (drums), Greg Vail (sax) and Ron King (trumpet) came to lend a hand. 'Lemonade' opens the album in a relaxed atmosphere reminiscent of chill-out, after which 'Chill Factor', the first single from it, builds up that atmosphere even more, this time with Paul Brown on guitar. 'Tears of Hope' drives me towards the dance floor in the intro with its catchy Latin rhythm, which turns into a mid-tempo. This is followed by 'Bread and Wine' with which Jeff gently invites us to the table, followed by ‘Let it Go’ and the romantic 'I Love You'. 'Fall in Love' continues on that sweet tour, after which 'If Only' delivers soft smooth jazz. The title track refers to that color that is located in the purple part of the spectrum, and tends towards contemporary jazz. The quiet track 'A Soul's River' closes this beautiful album. It is clear that the collaboration between Jeff and Paul has paid off. So let yourself be swayed to these soft melodies, smooth jazz grooves! |
