From Atlanta comes composer, arranger and drummer Jonathan Mills.

He has performed with George Cables, Grace Kelly, Brandon Boone (Tedeschi Trucks Band), Greg Abate, Harold Betters (Louis Armstrong, Slide Hampton, Ray Charles), Ashleigh Smith (winner Sarah Vaughn International Vocal Competition), Dave Frackenpohl (GSU ), Kevin Bales, and Luke Weathington (KSU).

Jonathan has also performed on various stages such as Rockwood Music Hall NYC, Musikfest PA, The Atlanta Film Festival, Churchill Grounds Jazz Cafe, Spivey Hall, Paris, Fete de la Musique in Toulouse, etc.

This is his debut album, released on October 24 recently and on which he mixes his different interests in jazz.
The title track opens the album, is performed in different time measures, and still sounds slightly funky. ‘For Hadley's Folks’ is a lullaby written for his niece.

'When My Mind's Quiet', on the other hand, sounds complex, after which 'Solecism' comes across as melodic, with a drum solo. ‘Cool Out’ is reminiscent of Thelonious Monk, followed by ‘Calderazzish’, which is actually a thank you to Joey Calderazzo.

And 'Wait For It' was initially inspired by The Roots, then whirls through Robert Glasper's harmonic structures, ending with West African folklore. With the blues of 'Sneak Attack', grafted on the trio, and a homage to Max Roach, it closes.

Not really “my cup of tea”!
