The Soultrend Orchestra is a notable side project led by renowned Italian producer and musician Nerio “Papik” Poggi.

Best known for his groundbreaking work under the name Papik, Poggi has established his reputation as one of Italy’s leading producers in the Nu Jazz Lounge scene. Over the past decade, his creative vision has resulted in around 40 albums, which include collaborations with solo artists and curated collections such as the acclaimed ‘Cocktail’ series.

With The Soultrend Orchestra, Papik delves deep into the world of soul jazz and disco, drawing inspiration from the iconic sounds of the 70s and 80s. Influenced by legends such as Roy Ayers, George Benson and Donald Byrd, his work also nods to the Acid Jazz movement, spearheaded by groups such as Incognito and The Brand New Heavies.

The Soultrend Orchestra debuted in 2017 with ‘84 King Street’, a vibrant ode to the golden age of disco. The album’s title references the legendary Paradise Garage, the New York club where DJs like David Mancuso and Larry Levan turned disco into a global phenomenon in the late ’70s. In 2022, the release of Live For Funk marked a turn toward soul and jazz influences, as evidenced on tracks like “About Love,” an homage to the timeless sound of Roy Ayers. This album showcased Papik’s evolving artistry and his dedication to exploring diverse sonic landscapes.

Produced in collaboration with Peter De Girolamo (aka P.A. Jeron), this new (and third) album continues Papik’s exploration of soul jazz and disco, fusing nostalgia with innovation. The album features contributions from longtime collaborators Alfredo Bochicchio, Massimo Guerra, and Simone “Federicuccio” Talone, as well as vocalists Laura Lanzillo, Erika Scherlin, and Anna Fondi.

Adding to the appeal is ‘Now Imagine’, which features guest appearances from an impressive roster of vocal talent, including Wendy D. Lewis, Ely Bruna, Nadyne Rush, Filippo Perbellini, Stevie Biondi and Nicole Magolie. Standout covers include a reinterpretation of Chic’s disco classic ‘Lost In Music’, made famous by Sister Sledge, and Kool & The Gang’s ethereal ‘Summer Madness’, brought to life by De Girolamo’s lush keyboards and Fondi’s mesmerizing vocals. Meanwhile, the single ‘Wiser’ is hitting the radio, a song that fuses funk and disco music, and is sung by American Wendy D. Lewis.

Once again, Papik’s lush tapestry of jazz, funk and disco transcends time and space.
