In Indiana, 2023 college graduates got together to revive college fight songs. And they did it in a jazzy way. Butler and Fasig, a trumpeter and a tenor saxophonist, along with the other members of this septet (trumpeter Nick Recktenwald, trombonist/bass trumpeter Jeff Parker, pianist Dan Ventura, bassist Jacob Smith, and drummer Francis Bassett-Dilley) transformed fight songs into hip, swinging jazzy tracks. Many of these songs were composed at least 100 years ago, and are based on early marches, which in turn inspired street music in New Orleans. And that is clearly evident in these arrangements.
