Seven
years ago, American singer, trumpeter and flugelhorn player Rob Zinn
launched his career as an independent smooth jazz artist. Then the album
'Yesterday Again' was released and 'Walk the Walk' followed in 2018.
Now his third album has been released, on which he once again worked with producer Paul Brown, as well as for the first time with producers Greg Manning, Roberto Vally, Jeff Canady, John Cassidy, Dennis Johnson and Adam Hawley.
Rob was born in Maryland, grew up in Delaware and now lives in Florida. After school he started his professional career in a 15 piece swing band. He then joined the dance band Group Therapy, and was the support act for The Spinners, Kool & The Gang, Tower of Power and Average White Band, among others. After being part of various other bands, he finally started his solo career.
This new album is distinctly contemporary jazz, featuring musicians such as Paul Brown, Jeff Ryan, Greg Manning, Andrew Neu, Ragan Whiteside, Blake Aaron, Eric Valentine, Sean Uliasz, Tom Schuman, Roberto Vally, Bob Baldwin, Lew Laing Jr. , Adam Hawley, Jeff Canady, Chris Fischer and Carlyle Barriteau. Meanwhile, more than 125 smooth jazz radio stations around the world have played songs from this album.
The energetic up-tempo track 'Take That' opens with a contemporary, danceable beat, after which 'All In' is more of a quiet mid-tempo track. This is followed by the Latin sounding 'Amante' with a soft hip-swaying melody, after which saxophonist Andrew Neu is a guest on the title track.
But saxophonist Jeff Ryan also makes himself heard on 'When and Where' and keyboard player Sean U plays on the mid-tempo of 'Hope for Tomorrow'. 'Push it Forward' bounces back energetically with the help of flautist 'Ragan Whiteside'.
The well-known ballad 'I Can't Make You Love Me' is best known in the versions of Bonnie Raitt and George Michael, but Rob gives his own interpretation here. 'Night Life' dives into the night, and Seal's hit 'Crazy' is covered as the closing track.
A super fun album that will be appreciated by fans of smooth as well as contemporary jazz!
