Multi-instrumentalist Konstantin Klashtorni is certainly the most
productive artist of the smooth jazz genre. Beside his solo projects
he released series like Kool & Klean, Chillaxing Jazz
Kollektion, Love Suggestions and Smooth Jazz.
His newest album of the latter is Smooth Jazz III (2016).
What is the special feature of the Smooth Jazz series?
Konstantin comments: “This is the style I started with back in 2004
recording my 1st album Downtown. I always wanted
to be a part of SJ community since I first heard David Sanborn and
Eric Marienthal play back in 80's. And of course, as soon as I've
got that awesome opportunity to record music at my home studio, I
started to produce tracks to sound like my heroes. (two more came
later - Kirk Whalum and Gerald Albright)
This series has nothing
special except of just being a nice melodic easy listening Smooth
Jazz. Unlike Kool&Klean and Chillaxing Jazz series it has a bit more
chords and arrangement complicity, might be a bit funkier I would
say.″
The album takes the run with Irresistible, a nice echo play
between sax and guitar. The keyboard tells the melody in further
phrases. Logically constructed but not boring. Walking on Dream
delivers a streamlined theme with interplay of sax, piano and horns.
Humble and Kind shines with fine sax and flute textures. A
gorgeous melody digs into your ear canals. Good to Be Alive
is a statement, everybody can sign. This easy performed piece speaks
for an abundance of talent. In The Night has a special
hypnotizing flow with a catchy effect.
Used To Love You allures with full-bodied harmonies and a
horn sequel which is influenced by Chaka Khan's Ain't Nobody.
One Call Away weaves deftly structures of a children's song
spiced up with a hearty beat. You Should Be Here
brilliantly intertwines sax and horns in a come and go.
Everybody knows the famous song Stand By Me. Konstantin
writes the romantic resumption with Stand By You with the
acoustic guitar in the lead. With On My Mind he composes
some final notes staying in your memory.
Konstantin Klashtorni has wrapped up in his new album Smooth Jazz
III everything you commonly think of as Smooth Jazz. Fine
harmonies, catchy melodies and perfect arrangements all in a
streamlined package.
