On the borderline of Smooth Jazz and New Age you can find contemporary instrumental legend David Lanz. One should avoid to pigeonhole this composer and pianist on one special style. His credo is: “David Lanz plays David Lanz music.” A rather complete survey about his overwhelming discography is to find at Wikipedia. Now you can add the new album Movements Of The Heart (2013) to this list.

It must be noted that, as expected, he remains true to his own style. David has recorded the entire album alone, so that you can concentrate on the actual music. David introduces into his new album with the wonderful piano piece Love's Return. The notes line up sonorously like a string of pearls. La Luna Dell' Amante is another sentimental piano tune with a very soothing attitude.

David draws the harmonic possibilities of his instrument with On Rainbow Way to the full. Even gentler follows David the melody on To Touch The Sky. With swaying rhythm he is linked to medieval ways. Warm-hearted romance is the right description for Rainlight. With I Hear You In A Song he delivers more emotional perspective to the audience.

Latest with The Way Home takes the melody the listener and does not let him go. Movements Of The Heart  brings no change of the overall mood. White Horse is a good example of the range, we can experience in David's piano performance. In Moonlight is to be regarded as an approximation to classical music pieces such as by Claude Debussy. Same is to say about the following Midnight Adagio (Amarie's Theme).

After this self-imposed strict form, he dissolves again with Here And Now to a popular sound sequence. The album is closed with I See You In The Stars, aptly in the style of the previous pieces.

David Lanz joins the illustrious group of pianists Jim Brickman and Richard Clayderman, who clearly demonstrated by platinum selling their excellence. Movements Of The Heart will surely follow the success of earlier recordings.
