Connecticut-born saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist Vincent Ingala has become an integral part of the smooth jazz scene. His new album Escape With Me (2024) is already his eighth recording.

Vincent has performed all instruments, produced and also written all songs with the exception of two covers. That allows him a complete creative control and vision. He is able to fully explore his musical ideas without having to compromise with other band members or producers. The result is a more cohesive and personal sound for the album, as it is a true representation of the artist's individual style and talent. Additionally, the recording process is more efficient and streamlined.

The album opens with Movin' and Shakin', a title that makes it easy to see what the song is aiming for. Vincent gets his audience up and moving with his infectious groove. Fantasy or Reality are two opposites that exist in a tense relationship. Vincent resolves the tension by combining dream-like imagery with down-to-earth rhythm.

Let's Get To It could be Ingala's leitmotif, because he tackles things and actively implements his musical ideas. Enabled by his distinct musical talent, sense of melody and groove, this is easy for him. The title track captivates with its dreaminess, which is characterized by floating sounds and a catchy sound sequence.

La-La Means I Love You was originally recorded by The Delfonics in 1968. The song was written by Thom Bell and William Hart. The smooth vocal harmonies and lush instrumentation of the original inspired Vincent to create this romantic cover.

In search of That Familiar Feeling, Vincent invokes the musical power of making the strings of the soul vibrate with the familiar. Thereby the saxophone is the main carrier of his message.

Ramp It Up is a phrase that can be understood as a musical wake-up call. Because only with passion, energy, and enthusiasm can you win the hearts of your audience. Recognized and implemented. We don't know what Vincent has to reveal. Midnight Confession takes up the time at midnight to turn dreamy things into musical notes.

Lene's Groove once again illustrates Ingala's concept of developing a rich melody on the saxophone on a structured beat. Free is an adaption of Ultra Naté's dance-floor hit of summer 1997 interpreted by Lindsey Webster. Vincent comments: "She has that signature sound that really resonates when you hear her. You know instantaneously it’s her – the sign of a true artist.”

With his album Escape With Me, Vincent Ingala has once again succeeded in putting together a bundle of polished and well-crafted songs that enhances the overall listening experience. He undoubtedly has a feel for the catchy grooves that have what it takes to make the smooth jazz charts.
