LA based jazz guitarist Nils has become an integral part of the smooth jazz scene through his regular album releases and his constant presence at America's festivals. His new album Feelin' Good (2024) continues this success story. Nils performs guitars, synth, keyboards, drum programming on this recording. He is supported by the following professional musicians: Jermone Randall (bass), Johny Britt (Rhodes, vocals, horn section), Oliver C. Brown (percussion), Clydene Jackson (vocals, Rodes, synths), Dov and the LoveStar Strings (live string section), Cory Mason (drums), Aaron Mason (bass), Mitch Forman (piano), and Mike Parlett (flutes, saxes). The album opens with the uplifting You Keep Me Up. Nils gets his audience with bright and catchy chords and melodic riffs revealing his undeniable talent. That's the Way of the World is a classic song by Earth, Wind & Fire, released in 1975 as part of the album of the same name. Nils' rendition gives the song a new polish without distorting the overall character of the song. Authentic, lively and cultivated. With Modern Times, Nils introduces a contemporary piece into his repertoire. Similarities to Ed Sheeran's multi-million seller Shape of You are based on the use of the well-known marimba synth sound. Moving Uptown is full of positivity, progress, and excitement about new beginnings. Slow and funky are the attributes of Don't You Dare. Hey Man inspires with a concise guitar sound that is underpinned by fast rhythm guitar riffs. A high groove factor indeed. Hooked On You focuses on the romantic side by emphasizing feelings of love and connection. Imagine a happy afternoon with children bouncing around enthusiastically in a play castle on a playground. Bouncing In The Castle attempts to capture this mood musically. Like the previous pieces of music, Living It Up spreads a confident attitude towards life and thus fulfills the purpose that Nils wants to achieve with his music. Nils doesn't neglect the sense of hope and encouragement in the following song It Can Happen either. Mitch Forman shows off his huge talent in an all-too-brief solo on the piano. The piece Celebration provides an opportunity to emphasize the outstanding collaboration of Johny Britt, who gives the song the right verve with his horn section. The relaxed title track concludes this successful album. We take this Feelin' Good attitude to life with us into our everyday activities. It's easy to vote for Nils' new album Feelin' Good. Everything done right!
