Once Upon A Time, the title of the new album by the Hungarian group Peet Project, sounds like a fairy tale from ancient times. The group does indeed place great emphasis on the past, as they prepare the carpet for the musical traditions of the great pop-funk-jazz groups of the 1980s and 1990s.

Their previous albums are Pink Spirit (2010), Turn You On (2011), Overseas (2013), Love (2015), The Bad Boys Of Budapest (2017), Ups & Down (2020) and Sweet Lemon (2022). The line-up as shown in the credits has remained the same over the years.

All songs of the new album are original compositions by the band, with lyrics penned by longtime songwriting partner David Henderson. The album opens with Queen of My Heart, obviously an ode to the beloved life partner, which is performed with all fervor.

The first single from the album Bevery Hills Party has been spinning on turntables since May 2024. Underpinned by a strong brass section, the energetic piece is characterized by Attila Závodi's saxophone. The saxophone as well stands out in the following Baby You Can Call Me, although the overall sound is also shaped by Olivér Magán's keyboards and of course Péter Ferencz's violin.

When you stand by the river, you absorb nature in its dynamic sense. Everything is in motion and the smells of the water are born from its many components. River Breeze with its sonorous bass reflects this diversity musically. Neon Signs are artifacts of art, lighting design and commerce. They aim to attract attention, entertain and also inform. Parallels to Peet Project are probably not coincidental.

The tune In My Head explores your inner thoughts hopefully during a positive process in reaction of fullfilling your dreams. Four80East once presented Noodle Soup. Now we have the Hungarian answer: Goulash Soup. A fiery tasting song with an excellent keyboard solo by Olivér Magán.

Gone With The Wind is a vocal song with a seductive impact not associated with themes of loss, nostalgia, and the passage of time. Once Upon a Time reflects about past experiences, memories, or fairy tale-like narratives. Fitted with a romantic attitude it's inviting listeners to reminisce about significant moments in their lives.

I can't imagine what people hunt at midnight. In any case, Midnight Chase shines with energetic brilliance. Péter Ferencz impresses with great virtuosity on the violin. The rest of the band is in no way inferior to him. Uphill Funk leads off the album with a funk piece that can easily tie in with the sound of the 80s.

Peet Project continue their remarkable musical career with Once Upon A Time and present their own unadulterated sound in an incredible variety.
