Guitarist Patrick Yandall is a proactive musician who still has his focus on music production. He is one of those musicians who promote a new album every year. This year he delights us with the album Stratophunk (2022). It is easy to imagine from which parts of words the title has taken its origin. The Stratocaster is a double-cutaway guitar, with an extended top "horn" shape for balance produced by Fender since 1954. Phunk is a mixture of Punk and Funk that originally described a form of Punk, but is now common as an urban spelling of Funk. Patrick has performed all instruments, mixed and recorded the tracks, which he has mostly written himself. The album opens with the title song which is also the first single release. A robust funky piece of music with plenty of brass support and heavy bass and guitar action. Down At the Shell lets it groove, with Patrick picking up both the organ and the bass guitar. Some George Benson like guitar harmony also rounds out the overall sound. Outstanding was a hit of the GAP Band on the group's platinum-selling 1982 album Gap Band IV. On his interpretation Patrick makes his guitar sing, taking time to weave in his own musical ideas. What can be more contagious than the cheerfulness of a good love. The aptly named piece spreads the same like a spotlight. With Spellcaster Patrick wants to involve us in his very own guitar magic. Romance is not neglected on his album. Stay Tonite says everything you need to know about this piece. With short pointed guitar riffs That Deep captivates us. Imagine a prancing cat swinging to the beat of the music. Jaz Kat has that certain something that makes us vibrate too. The onomatopoeic transposition of train sounds is often found in music. L Train is Patrick's version of an express truck. I See You is the second song Patrick dedicates to the relationship of two with plenty of beautiful harmony. Your Turn addresses the listener directly. With Michigan In The Fall, Patrick paints a multicolored picture of this state as the season turns the leaves of the trees a deep red and yellow. Final tune is a cover of Wichita Lineman by Jimmy Webb which Patrick unfolds to full bloom on his guitar. Stratophunk gives a good opportunity to meet guitarist Patrick Yandall. At home in many styles of music, there is something for everyone to hold on to.
